At least four people were killed and several injured as a landslide wreaked havoc in the Japanese seaside resort town of Atami. About 2,000 rescue workers have been digging through sludge and debris for victims since the deadly incident took place. “We will do utmost to save as many lives as possible,” Atami Mayor Sakae Saito said. Late Monday, the authorities released the names of more than 60 people, who were unaccounted for and the majority of them have since responded. According to reports, there are 24 people still unaccounted for. The landslide took place after days of heavy downpour in Atami, which is built into a steep hillside. It destroyed the Izusan neighbourhood, known for its hot springs, a shrine and shopping streets. The town has a registered population of 36,800 and is about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southwest of Tokyo.
