EC Bans Opinion, Exit Polls in 48-Hour period

The chief minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), which won both seats in the 2020 election for the assembly, is fielding candidates for Tarapur and the reserved Kusheshwar seats in Asthan. Tarapur MLA Mewa Lal Chaudhary died in the Covid-19 spike earlier this year.

The attempt by JD(U) to hold this seat has been contested by members of the RJD Arun Kumar and Rajesh Mishra of the Congress.

The candidate for Kusheshwar Asthan, JD(U), has been fielded Aman Bhushan Hazari, the son of the three-time MLA Shashi Bhushan Hazari, whose death forced the by-poll. Congress is fielding Atirek K, his son Ashok Ram who had fought on the party’s ticket during the assembly elections and was runner-up. The RJD has been fielded Ganesh Bharti.

The election was fought with RJD as well as Congress. It appears that there’s an issue within the alliance after RJD announced the first announcement of their candidates to both houses.

An intense campaign is anticipated for the by-election. RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav, who will be leading the RJD’s election campaign, has also expressed his hope that doctors from Delhi will allow the father of his son Lalu Prasad to visit Bihar. The Congress also is anticipating a lively campaign amid Kanhaiya Kumar’s recent admission to the Congress party. Kanhaiya Kumar was formerly a JNU student and is often regarded as a possible rival to Tejashwi, a candidate for the Congress in both constituencies.
